Newport Bus Cuts

Newport Liberal Democrat candidates, Ryan Jones and Dr Mike Hamilton, have issued a challenge to the Tory Party in Newport, to condemn and disown their recent appalling actions.

“The conduct and behaviour so far has been vile. Jacob Rees-Mogg has insulted the families of Grenfell, by saying they lacked common sense. Defending him, Andrew Bridgen - another Tory MP totally divorced from reality - seemed to suggest that Rees-Mogg was cleverer than those who died or lost loved ones,” Mike Hamilton said.

Ryan Jones said, “This is disgusting, plain and simple. It is showing the Tory Party across the UK to be regressive, nasty and out of touch. Not only that, but there are now reports of a Tory candidate in the Vale of Glamorgan sabotaging a rape trial, and another Tory candidate in the Gower saying that benefits claimants should be put down.”

“This type of language and politics has no place in Newport. We are calling on the Tory candidate in Newport West to stand up and disown these views. If he does not, we can only assume he agrees.”

Mike Hamilton added, “The Tories haven't even bothered to select a candidate yet in Newport East, but when they get round to it, I will expect them to disown these views as well. The people of Newport deserve candidates who will stand up to the bigoted, right-wing views of Johnson, Rees-Mogg and others.”

Ryan Jones has been selected for Newport West and Dr. Mike Hamilton for Newport East – which includes the areas of Caldicot, Magor, Rogiet and Undy.
