The Caerleon campus of the University of South Wales has a rich place in the hearts and minds of the people of Newport. Yet the University has just announced that this vital campus is set to close. As one of the largest employers, the university has played a major role in the area, over many years. It is also a great resource for the area, as thousands of former students will testify. This loss will have a bitter impact on Newport and its communities.
Labour council leaders, MPs and AMs are all standing by and watching while the campus is closed, meaning jobs will be lost and local students will be forced to travel to Pontypridd to complete their courses. The Welsh Labour Government promised not to close any campuses. Instead, we see them going back on their word time and time again. The University of Wales, Newport has gained a reputation as a place for adult learning and part time education. Welsh Labour claims that it wants to widen access to higher education for disadvantaged students but this closure does exactly the opposite.
Please join me and call on the Welsh Labour Government to reverse this closure and keep Caerleon campus open.

Save Caerleon Campus Petition
We the undersigned are disappointed that the University of South Wales is removing courses from the Caerleon campus. The University is either closing courses down or moving them to the Treforest campus. There is massive support for the Caerleon campus in the Newport area and we call upon the university of South Wales to commit to the campus and to continuing to provide the full range of courses that are available in the Newport area.
